Day +50

Posted: October 12, 2010 by Kat in Uncategorized

We’re half way there!!! To day 100 that is. Day 100 is a BIG deal for BMT kids. It’s when a lot of rules are changed, like what he can eat, where he can go, people he can see. All very big things when you’re 5 and you are missing out on some of your favorite things and people.

It’s weird to think that it’s been 50 days since transplant….

Ok, so lets see if I can try and explain all the terminology thrown at me this morning. Yesterday Dr. Cheng, our BMT doc called in the hematology docs to help figure out why Creed continues to have low platelets and hemoglobin. There of course are several different causes, so they have sent several blood test to see what is the cause of this. Most of these test are “send outs” meaning they are sent to labs out of state. It can take up to a week to get these back. We don’t necessarily have to stay in the hospital as we wait, but we will stay here until they are comfortable that he is stable. One thing I do know is that the IVIG treatment Creed received about 3 weeks ago could be the cause of the low hemoglobin. Creed has gotten these infusions for the past 3 years to help out with his immune system. But now it seems that he may not need as frequently. Instead of giving him the IVIG monthly, they are now going to check his levels to see if he needs it, if his levels are over 600 he won’t need the IVIG. Clear as mud right? The hemoc doc thinks that the platelet issue is probably still from the transplant. Stem cells transplants just take longer to recover from.

On a different note, Creeds white count is continuing to increase along with his ANC. These are the two guys we were watching from the beginning. His white count is higher than it was when we came into the hospital before transplant. Overall he is doing pretty well. Just a few pieces of the puzzle to figure out.

Thanks to all of you for your sweet emails, text, cards and phone calls. It’s very comforting to know that you’re still with us. The transplant is over but we still have a very long road ahead of us. Once we make it to 2 years we’ll be pretty much out of the woods. God has been very faithful to us through this entire journey and I know he will continue to carry us all the way.

Love,
Stephanie

Thanks so much for the update!! Creeder I’ve been praying for you, mommy and daddy all day long and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I know you’re ready to get to play outside again, see other kids, eat some Chick-fil-A and snuggle with Scootie just to name a few. You’ve been such a tough trooper through all this and I can’t tell you how proud of you I am. I’m so grateful for our God and His faithfulness. He loves you soooo much!!! … and so do I 😉
