Week 2 in the PICU

Posted: March 28, 2012 by creedsstory in Uncategorized

This week has definitely started better than last week. Although, I wish I were writing an update from somewhere other than here. Creed’s made lots of steps in the right direction. He’s still on CVVH (dialysis) and the ventilator, but his body is healing and those machines are what he needs to do that. We haven’t been able to do the actual threadworm testing because he still hasn’t pooped. Kinda hard to do that when there’s nothing in your gut. He’s on several antibiotics that cover all sorts of infections. The doctors pretty much think at this time he had some type of infection that was masked by the steroids. We may and probably won’t know what it was. What we do know is that he’s slowly progressing in the right direction. The last two days he’s been awake on and off. He will now open his eyes and can answer your questions with a nod. He said he’s not in pain and is of course thirsty and hungry. The doctors are hoping that we can get him off of the vent soon, one thing slowing that down is his tummy. It’s still distended and that makes it hard for his lungs to fully inflate. He’s still having extra fluid removed with the help of the CVVH. Overall it’s been a quiet few days. The CT scan from Saturday showed gall stones and pancreatitis. For now, we’re not doing anything about the stones. He may possibly have his gallbladder removed, depending on if the stones pass on their own. Once he’s stable enough, he’ll have a kidney biopsy to see just what’s going on with those guys. But for now, it’s just rest and allow his gut to heal more. It’s taken a pretty big hit and will require lots of time to heal.

Thanks so much to everyone who moved us this past weekend. We’re so grateful for all your love and labor. I wanted to also share with you that the prayer pager has continued to remind us of how you all are praying for Creed. It goes off constantly and is such a comfort when doubt enters our minds from time to time. I’m constantly reminded of God’s promise to never leave us. Thanks for walking along beside us.

Much love,
Creed’s mom
